White Peak Way
On paper, the White Peak Way looking interesting (as did the Peak District Boundary Walk but that was prohibitive due to accommodation availability/cost). It tied nicely with the start of the Pennine Way, and I had plenty of time to fill the gap between the Dales High Way and the Pennine Way dates, so added it to my itinerary.
The plan was to walk 6 of 7 sections of the circular walk. I ended up walking 3 proper ones and one partial one.
I admit the White Peak Way did not have the variety of scenery that I had anticipated, and that I had a few days of lethargy that meant I chose not to walk a couple of sections that I had planned to walk (which I wish I had looking back).
I almost think the sections of the White Peak Way that I did not do (Hartington-Ilam-near Hartington, Bakewell-Hathersage, parts of Hathersage-Castleton, Castleton-Buxton) might have the better scenery, but I doubt I would return to do the sections I missed.
Check out the sections I did do by clicking on any of the links below, or just start at the beginning and work your way through.
Prologue Haworth & Buxton: Where I avoid the Brontes (for now)
Day 1 Buxton to Hartington: Where I see a lot of ground at my feet
Day 2 Hartington: Where I did NOT walk to Ilam and back (but regret that in hindsight)
Day 3 Hartington to Youlgreave: Another soggy half-day of walking.
Day 4 Youlgreave to Bakewell, then on to Hathersage: A morning walk, irritating crowds, and a bus.
Day 5 Hathersage to Edale via Castleton (and back): Not the official route, but fun nonetheless.
