White Peak Way Day 3
Friday 16th August 2019 Youlgreave
Motivated once again, I was away from the hostel at 8:15 and on the trail. Even though it had rained overnight, it wasn’t when I left, but the ground was wet underfoot. I thought I would try the gators I had gotten recently to see if they would stop the wet long grass from making the insides of my boots wet. Nope, they didn’t help at all. In fact, they seemed to speed up the process.
It wasn’t long before the rain started. It was another day of roads, farm tracks, fields and mud. The scenery was very much a repeat of Wednesday.
A long section of impassable mud |
Dropping down to Youlgreave |
It actually was a very short stage, as I arrived in Youlgreave at noon, but the hostel didn’t open until 5. I found an empty church to sit in and read, but it was rather chilly there and the boots and socks I removed didn’t seem to dry much during the few hours I killed while in there.
Once at the hostel, I had a bottle of wine with dinner (quite a few of the hostels are licensed now) and chatted with a fellow kiwi who was also staying there.
