White Peak Way Day 4

Saturday 17th August 2019 Hathersage

There was a delay in getting out of the hostel in the morning as there was only one staff member on duty.  They were busy getting breakfasts for people, and the packed lunch I had ordered was unmade and lower on the priority list.  If I hadn’t prepaid for it, I would not have bothered waiting.  It was almost 9 before I was away.

Nine Stones Close

Robin Hood's Stride

NOT the hermit's cave, but easily mistaken for it

The section through Stanton Moor included the Cork Stone, the Reform (Earl Grey) Tower, and the Nine Ladies stone circle.

Some form of serpent thrusting from the ground

The weather was better and there was no rain today (even though it threatened to off and on), but the evidence of lots of recent rain was around, as you can see by the flooded stream in the picture above.  The camera made its first appearance in a few days, no longer sheltering in my pack.

I arrived at a very busy Bakewell around 1 p.m.  The crowds were a bit of a culture shock to my system after coming out of the countryside where I had encountered no one.  I waited over an hour and a half for the bus to Hathersage (and looking back now as I type this up, think I probably could have continued walking and made it there without the bus trip).

I found the farm bunkhouse I was staying in a distance out of town, and it was very basic/rustic.  It was back into Hathersage for supplies and an early dinner at a pub, then the bunkhouse again for some hand laundry and journal writing.
