Shropshire Hills 2013 Day 4
Day 4 Friday 23rd August 2013
My train was not due to leave until after
midday and, armed with the knowledge from Roz yesterday, I headed off to find
more Lone Pine locations.
I walked mostly roads, down through Little Stretton, then Minton, then to Hamperley, where Hamperley Farm was the inspiration for Ingles Farm.
A turn right and walk up the lane brought me to Prior’s Holt, the inspiration for Witchend.
I spent a little time up a path opposite Prior’s Holt, and thought I found the actual “Lone Pine” from the books but, upon reflection years later, I guess the Lone Pine could be anywhere if indeed it actually exists.

I walked the same way back to Church Stretton,
where I collected my belongings and purchased some lollies from the sweet
shop. I left Church Stretton without the
knowledge that I would return (again, and again, and again), so it was with both
a joy of having been there and experienced everything it had to offer and with
a sense of sadness that it was over.
