Mendip Way 2014
Plaque for the West Mendip Way, where is the East recognition? |
I had finished the Cotswold Way the previous
day and spent most of the day before walking the Mendip Way in Bath, just killing time until my train to Frome. I had thought I could walk to the B&B from the Frome railway station but
it soon became obvious it was not close by, so I got a taxi there – in fact it
was slightly under 2 miles, or 3.2kms, but I did have my large pack on with all
of the weight. At first there seemed to
be no one home, and I was out in the country, so stood there like an idiot
while I considered my options, but soon a man came from over the road handing
me an envelope with keys and a note, and he explained he was the son of the
owners but they would be home later.
After a shower I wandered up a country lane to a nearby pub for steak
and stilton pie. On the way back I
witnessed an amazing sunset (and I am one to not really care that much about
sunsets) with a silhouetted tree and ribbed clouds, but as chance would have it
I had not brought my camera with me to the pub.
Frome to Shepton-Mallet during which I walk through
the closed section of trail, and miss out on a cream tea
Shepton-Mallet to Wells during which I see a
lot of run-down farms, and eat a lot of cheese
Wells to Cheddar during which I begin to enjoy
the walk, and acquire a skeleton for company
Cheddar to Weston-Super-Mare, during which I get
very lost more than once, and end up doing a different walk
