Mendip Way 2014 Day 3
Saturday 9th August 2014
Last night I contended with the sounds of church
bells as I went to sleep, and then torrential rain as I slept.
This morning on the trail it was much better
way-marking, tracks, views, and more well-maintained farms.

Arthur's Point view |
Is that Glastonbury Tor I can see from Arthur's Point? |
I chatted with a couple with a dog somewhere
between Wells and Wookey Hole.
At Wookey Hole I did not pay to enter the
caves, but I did visit the caves giftshop from which I bought a gothic wine bottle
holder (a bust of a skeleton in rags drinking from a bottle you place on
it). I ended up having to lug this (in
it’s box) in a bin liner for the rest of the walk!
I chatted with another guy on the way out of
Wookey Hole on the way to Priddy.
Through Ebbor Gorge...
Then on toward Priddy...
Priddy |
And beyond...
I kept seeing a multitude of gliders in the sky, and an old plane
Later I saw a glider being launched using a
high-speed winch.

In Draycott...
Then onward...
I got to Cheddar at 3, but the hostel did not
open until 5 so I wandered up to the gorge for a look where I bought an ice
cream and a litre of cider.
Dinner was at the youth hostel, but I wandered
out again after to a pub for a cider (as you weren’t allowed to drink your own
alcohol at the hostel).
