Coast to Coast Day 4

Wednesday 2nd October 2019 Shap

I was away around 8:15 and almost immediately into a long slog up a mountain.

Eventually Angle Tarn tried to convince me that the Lake District is beautiful after all.  It even got me taking the camera out (as well as using my phone).  Incidentally, this was the last time I used the camera during the C2C.  Be forewarned, many photos of Angle Tarn follow...

There were some stunning views.  I almost relented and said the Lake District isn't so bad after all, but the horrific descent down Kidsty Pike and the boring, rocky track alongside Haweswater solidified my dislike.

There were a lot of people going in the opposite direction by this time, and I a) had no idea where they had sprung up from (as I could see no civilisation nearby), and b) had no idea why they would choose this particularly nasty trail to ascend (at least I had gravity on my side, although perhaps that was a bad thing).

The walk seemed to take forever, but I finally left the lake district and arrived in Shap at 3.  That was almost 7 hours for approx. 25km – even worse than yesterday!

I purchased a snack from the coop and sat waiting for the bunkhouse to open.  I got fish and chips and cider for dinner, then chilled with my journal, the internet, some route-planning and reading.
