South West Coastal Path 2015 Day 8
Tuesday 1st September 2015
Leaving Westward Ho!
And on the trail.
As I walked, I kept hearing the rumble of head-sized pebbles being dragged back into the sea by the outgoing tide.
I encountered quail and pheasants numerous times (although perhaps some of them were grouse before I knew what grouse were). Later I was told they were guinea fowl. Anyway, they would run along the trail in front of me for ages before they found a way to escape off to the side.
There was evidence of a herd of walkers
somewhere ahead of me as their hooves had cut ruddy great swathes of mud along
the trail.
Through West Mains and beyond.

I arrived in Clo-velly (not Clove-ly), a
quaint valley village that ran down a valley, along both sides of a vehicle-less cobblestone walk.
I sat on the beach beside a waterfall to eat lunch, behind which was Merlin's cave.
I ran into a couple I had passed earlier on the trail, Andrew and Asa) and sat and chatted with them for a while. I found out they have the same accommodation as me in Bude.
A visit to the "fisherman's cottage"; a kind of museum.

Later, I chatted with a few other walkers in a
pub over dinner, including another couple, Mark and Claire.
