South West Coastal Path 2015 Day 9

Wednesday 2nd September 2015

My sleep was interrupted by the sound of wooden sleds being pulled down the cobblestone path.  They use them to make deliveries and collect rubbish.  I understand there is a road that accesses the lowest part of the town, where the sleds are collected and driven around and back up for the next day.  Anyway, off on the trail once more.

Along the trail, I came across more "pheasants", which are apparently guinea fowl.

About an hour into my walk I was kneeling to take a photo of this giant mushroom, when I stood up and felt something in below or in my right knee tear.

I hobbled on and took painkillers and anti-inflammatories to help.   Along the coast there were flat sheets of stone that had been tilted and stuck up into the sky.

At Hartland Quay refreshments I purchased a ginger beer float and obtained some ice for the knee.  The guy running it gave me a drink card where once you've bought 5 you get one free, which made me laugh.  Who would walk the SWCP 5 times to get a free drink?  While sitting there chilling it, Andrew and Asa arrived.  I walked with them to the Hartland Quay hotel where we had some drinks and chatted.

What the heck are these lumps of earth?

They were not staying here, so continued along the trail while I hobbled 20 minutes up the road to my B&B in nearby Stoke.  Later, I hobbled back to the hotel for a smoked mackerel salad dinner.
