Ayrshire Coastal Path 2013 Day 1
Day 1 Wednesday
7th August 2013
This morning
I awoke to a very swollen ankle and foot.
It was immobile. That shot my
plans of walking the Ayrshire Coastal path.
Tom drove me to the chemist, who referred me to the local G.P. who
referred me to Accident and Emergency in nearby Kilmarnock. After some tests for either a possible blood
clot or fracture (both negative) and the advice to stay off my feet, keep my ankle
elevated, and continue taking ibuprofen regularly, we promptly ignored said
advice and went over to Ardrossan (to check ferry times and prices). After which, we drove northward, up the
coast, where we stopped at Portencross Castle for a gander.
There were also views across to the Isle of Arran, where we'd be going tomorrow.
We
continued to drive north up to Largs, the location where I “would have” begun
my day’s walk. The original plan was to walk
for the day before being collected again by Tom, to be taken back to Galston,
and then the next day he would drive me back to where I ended the previous day
so I could do another section. Needless
to say, that plan was abandoned, except for the ride back to Galston.
