St. Cuthbert's Way 2019 Day 1

Monday 9th September Kirk Yetholm to Jedburgh

The previous day I had just finished the Pennine Way.  Tomorrow I was starting the Borders Abbeys Way.  So today I walked part of the St. Cuthbert’s Way that linked the two.

Research had told me the distance was going to be about 20km, however it ended up being 32km!

Getting out of Kirk Yetholm involved a little road walking, but then there was a steep climb up Wideopen Hill, then down the other side toward Gateshaw.

What followed as a fair amount of road walking, at first passing through Morebattle.

Then getting to, and passing, Cessford Castle.

The next section was road, then farmland with some wooded copses, then road, then farmland, then road, then more wooded sections, until finally descending toward the region encircled by the Borders Abbeys Way.

I stopped for a brief chat with a couple at the junction of St. Cuthbert’s Way and the Borders Abbeys Way path toward Jedburgh, and there paused my St. Cuthbert’s Way walk for almost a week while I took in the Borders Abbeys Way.
