Dales High Way 2019 Day 3
Tuesday 6th August 2019 Chapel-le-Dale
It was a slightly late start getting out the
door around 8:45. I took a steep country lane up into the hills rather than the traditional climb to Malham Cove (as I would be going that way as part of the Pennine Way later in the month), and rejoined the Dales High Way before I got to that iconic section of limestone pavement.
12km and a little over 2 hours later I was at Settle, where I purchased some mandarins. Then it was onward to Faizon for a cream tea and a break from the rain.
The next section concluded with a trying climb up Ingleborough and down again.
A short wander through Chapel-le-dale and
along farm lanes I finally found Broadrake Bunkbarn, which was a very modern
and very reasonably priced place.
Do you see the face and skeletal hand at the base of the tree? |
The only other customer was a woman, so we had entirely different rooms. The owners kindly gave me a ride back to the pub and dropped me there. I ordered a cider and, later, ratatouille but during the hour that it took for the meal to arrive I felt a bit off. I ended up eating less than half of the meal and drinking about 2/3 of the cider. I asked the pub staff to call the bunk barn owners for a ride back and when I got back, I went straight to bed.
