Ayrshire Coastal Path 2013 Day 4
Day 4 Saturday
10th August 2013
Our
destination for the day would be Turnberry, where I had a BnB booked, but along
the way we did a few other things. First
was a stop at Crossraguel Abbey ruins.
Then we wanted
to see Culzean Castle, but the entry fee was £15 each, so we drove on to
Maidens, parked by the sea, then walked north along the Ayrshire Coastal path which
ran through the Culzean Country Park (which included the Castle) and thereby
got in for free, as coastal path walkers were not charged entry.
I realised I had lost my pedometer at this
point (probably when we had stopped at Maybole earlier to purchase lunch items),
which meant not knowing how far I walked for the rest of my holiday. (Of course, this was before smart phones and
apps that would measure and record all of that for you).
On to
Turnberry, and my BnB for the night, where I bid farewell to Tom and Liz. I was most grateful for their hospitality,
especially during my time of injury and need to avoid walking long distances
each day. My ankle was feeling okay, so
I went for a walk to see the hotel, lighthouse, (hardly
visible) castle ruins, golf course, and views from the coast.
Back at
the BnB I ate my sandwiches, intended for lunch, as my dinner; not the only time I would do that on my
numerous LDW’s in the U.K. in the future.
