West Highland Way 2019 Day 4
Day 4 Tuesday 24th September 2019
I stopped at the local shop for some supplies,
as I had an impression there was no food to be purchased where I was going to
be staying tonight, other than at a very expensive hotel. I was heading back to the trail by 8:20, with
the first 2km to be an uphill climb. I
did not have far to go today, so I took things a lot slower.

Coming into Tyndrum I saw where open mining
had ravaged the area, and nothing much grew there, although there had been attempts to turn part of it into a community woodland.
As I left Tyndrum I stopped at a shop for a
chocolate milk and had a quick chat with a woman drinking her coffee. She was also walking the Way, but taking
smaller stages than I was. Between Tyndrum and Bridge of Orchy, the Way follows the railway line.
Even with my
slow pace, I still arrived at Bridge of Orchy at 1 p.m. I was staying on the railway platform in,
what was once, the station waiting rooms.
I was in a bunkroom and, once allowed in after the manager had finished
cleaning, lay on a bunk and read and snacked all afternoon. I had a few other bunkmates that night, but
recall little of what, if anything, happened.
I do recall a solo female walker saying she was going to catch the bus
from Bridge of Orchy to Kingshouse and then walk the remaining distance over to
Kinlochleven. Apparently she had skipped
out on other parts of the Way earlier. See how she makes out in Day 5's post.
