Wye Valley Walk 2019 Day 2
An interlude, Thursday 25th
July 2019
Today’s itinerary was to walk from Monmouth to
Grosmont via White Castle but, of course, that didn’t happen. And it wasn’t the only day in the 3 months to
follow where I did not follow my intended plans for the day.
I am woken just after 6 a.m. in the hospital
and had blood taken. The doctor arrives
and tells me I can go, but I inform her that the bloodwork was done, so she
wanders off to check the mornings results.
When she returns, she says that I am almost back to normal and just to
be sure to hydrate while walking on these hot days. Um, did I not hydrate a lot yesterday? Okay, okay, I know I didn’t for the 24 hours
prior to that, so I hear what she’s saying.
I will be extra cautious after this early detour to my holiday.
I ask the hospital for a taxi number and call
for one, being told it’s going to cost me £40 to get back to Monmouth. Luckily I’ve already called the B&B I was
going to stay in tonight in Grosmont and cancelled, saving me £50 there, and
checking that I can stay back at the Monmouth B&B tonight (instead of last
night) which they were happy to do at no extra charge. Today was a recovery day, spent in the centre
of Monmouth in the shade reading books on my ereader. I returned to the Wetherspoons to enjoy a
lamb curry and pint of cider.
