Pennine Way Day 16
Sunday 8th September 2019 Kirk Yetholm
It was a slow start as I had to wait for the B&B owners to feed everyone, get packed lunches sorted, do dishes, and then be available to give me a ride back up to the place I was collected from yesterday.
It took about 40 minutes to climb back up the hill to Russell’s Cairn, where I arrived at 10:33.
Later, I chose not to take the detour walk to the high point on the Cheviots.
From Russell’s Cairn to Kirk Yetholm was 3 hours and 54 minutes (wow, the same timing as yesterday!). I could have combined the 2 days walk quite easily.
At the Border Hotel I got a free ½ pint of cider, a second certificate, and then had a pint of coke. I hit the B&B, where I met the owner, Charles, who did a load of laundry for me, and I had a shower and shave, before returning to the pub for dinner and to see a few other Pennine Way finishers.
I had completed what is reportedly the hardest Long Distance Walk in England!
