Pennine Way Day 1
Wednesday 21st August 2019 Padfield
It had been a terrible night’s sleep with some pain in my right side during the night. I had an early train, so it was out of the hostel by 7 and to the platform to catch the train to Edale. I sat in a car park at Edale station for a while until the baggage transfer company man arrived and I left my larger pack with him. Into Edale proper to start the Pennine Way.
The first part was picturesque rolling countryside where even the sheep posed for photos.
Then I hit Jacob’s Ladder, which was steep, but not as steep nor as long as I had imagined.
I saw my first other walker of the day once at the top but did not see that many walkers during the day at all.
Then I reached Kinder Low (Kinder Scout is off the Pennine Way)
My B&B was in Padfield, which was 4km off the path, along another wide and straight path.
I got to my B&B around 3:30 so rested and showered then it was to the local pub for a quick meal and a pint. I was asleep by 8:30 despite the pain in my right hip.
