Lady Anne's Way 2019 Day 6
Friday 18th October 2019
My leaky boots finally got the better of me,
as today I avoided much of the actual path and walked roads instead where
possible, getting myself into a tricky spot walking a narrow, winding, walled,
busy road where I had to leap up onto the stones on the walls a couple of time
to avoid being run over.
I visited Brougham Hall again, and got some different shots than last time.
Then it was on to Brougham Castle, but this time I did not pay to enter and just looked on from afar.
I arrived in Penrith just after 1 p.m. and I headed to visit the castle ruins first.
Then, after collecting my train ticket for the next day, I went to the movies (like I did the last time I finished Lady Anne's Way). After that, it was a shower at the hostel, then to the Wetherspoons for a quick meal. There was one spot in the Wetherspoons where there was a step down, but the lighting was poor and there was no warning sign, so I stumbled. With nothing else to do after eating, and it still being early, I went to the movies again (but not the same movie!).
The day after the last time I finished Lady Anne’s Way, I went straight to Gatwick to spend a night in a BnB and then flew out the next morning, but this time I had a couple of nights in Shropshire to look forward to before leaving the U.K. so, this time, it did not feel like the abrupt end to a holiday.
Thinking back over my two times on Lady Anne’s
Way, I must say that despite the leaking boots and the sections of mud and muck,
it is still my favourite walk. Should
the opportunity arise, I would love to do it again (with correctly functioning footwear), but not right away. I think allowing some time for my memories to
fade and walking some of the many other trails I’d like to do, should take
precedence for now. That assumes I'll ever be able to walk in the U.K. again.
