Dales High Way 2019 Day 7

Saturday 10th August 2019 Appleby-in-Westmorland

It was raining when I started, and it kept raining all day, so it was damp and dreary.  My kind of weather!  The only negative was that I kept the camera and phone locked away from the weather so only 2 photos from today's walk.

I went off trail a couple of times, but I had a hiking app on my phone that I was using, and it corrected my mistakes often; without it I would have gone astray many times.

At one point the Way ran the same route as Wainwright's Coast to Coast, and some well meaning chap going in the opposite direction gave me instructions to turn left just up ahead, however that was if I was walking the C2C; the Dales High Way went straight.

I sat in a little shelter in Great Asby to eat my packed lunch.

The streams and rivers became swollen and, at times, I was wading more than walking, so I made the decision to avoid some final riverbank walking and chose a road walk diversion.

Once in Appleby I snacked on some crisps and lollies outside of a pub while using their Wi-Fi.  I located the Airbnb accommodation (again not including breakfast – Grrrrr!) for a shower and to chill.  The place was expensive, and included a separate private lounge, even though the bedroom was huge and had armchairs, which was total overkill.  It was chicken and leek pie at a local pub for dinner.

The next morning I had an anytime ticket for the train, and chose to leave early to head to Haworth for 2 nights before beginning the White Peak Way.
