Coast to Coast Day 9
Monday 7th October 2019 Blakey Ridge
At breakfast I chatted a bit with some of the group that had ousted me from the hostel proper. They were there to do some day walks in the area. Then I was ready to face the day. Or, was I?
Wind. Then
rain. Then mist. Then wind AND rain. Then continual rain with heavy mist. I hardly recognised the section of trail that
was also part of the Cleveland Way that I had walked last year, which took up the majority of the day. At one point I was afraid the wind would whip my pack right off my back; it certainly tried removing the rain cover. Once I passed the junction where the Cleveland Way veered off from the C2C I just kept my head down to keep the wind and rain out of my face and eyes. I did not take my camera or phone out all day due to the rain.
By the time I arrived at the Lion Inn, which rose from the mist like some apparition, I was more than ready for the soak in the bath I had as soon as I had checked in, the free hot chocolate in the room, the heavy dinner and decadent dessert I followed it with, and the two ciders I drank. On top of all that, the cost of a room with a great breakfast was only £25.
Because of the constant rain today, there were no photos.
