South West Coastal Path 2015 Day 12

Saturday 5th September 2015

Today was the only planned “rest” day for the entire SWCP; I did end up kind of having another, but that was not by choice.  I had planned today because of Tintagel Castle, not knowing that it would only take about an hour to look around it.

In preparation, last night and this morning I listened to Rick Wakeman’s “The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table” to get myself in the mood.  As I was actually staying in Bossiney, I walked the coastal path to the castle.  On the way I ran into a guy walking part of the SWCP and chatted briefly.

Of course, King Arthur is a legend, meaning there is actually no evidence that he actually exists (and some purport that he was merely a story character used to symbolise an unattainable "perfect" king).

I wandered around the castle, taking photos, but was a little disappointed as, although it was castle ruins, there was barely anything to look at.

Going out the in door (a nod to Led Zepplin)
I spent the afternoon sitting in a pub in Tintagel, nursing a cider, and reading.  Eventually I had the fish ‘n’ chips there for dinner before wandering back to Bossiney.
