Shropshire Hills 2015 Day 4
Day 4 Sunday 23rd August 2015
Today was another Stiperstones walk, getting
there the usual way up Carding Mill Valley, over to Ratlinghope, then past
Bridges.
At the top I decided to
circumnavigate the northern end of the Stiperstones park, getting rather
annoyed at the state of the path due to cyclists having created long muddy ruts
throughout. Once I looped around and
back, I walked past the stones themselves just as a torrential downpour
hit.
I was soaked before I had a chance
to put on waterproofs, and then trudged my way past the rest of the stones and
down the road to the Bridges pub where I had intended to eat, but being Sunday
lunch it was extremely busy. I managed
to order a pint and found a corner to drink it, but then chose to catch the
shuttle bus (that runs some weekends) back as I was too wet and didn’t want the
clothes to rub. After dropping my gear
at Highcliffe I headed to the King’s Arms for a cider and a platter. Why I had not discovered this reasonable pub
sooner in my Church Stretton wanderings, I don’t know.
The next day I would leave Highcliffe (and not return, as they are not running it as a B&B any longer), then catch the train and head to Minehead to begin the South West Coastal Path.
Highcliffe, as I leave it for the last time |
